Rafael Nadal wins but Ferrer beaten at Barcelona Open
Rafael Nadal extended his winning run at the Barcelona Open to 35
matches, but compatriot and top seed David Ferrer suffered a shock
defeat.
Second seed Nadal, bidding to win the tournament for
the eighth successive year, began with a 6-4 6-2 victory against
Argentina's Carlos Berlocq.
That followed fellow Spaniard Ferrer's unexpected 7-5 3-6 6-1 loss to Russian Dmitry Tursunov.
Ferrer pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters last week with a leg injury.
"It was the worst match that I've played in the last couple of years," said Ferrer, who was playing for the first time since losing to Andy Murray in the Indian Wells final.
"I lost the third set too fast. He was better today and more aggressive in the third. I just did not feel good on the court today."
Elsewhere, seventh seed Juan Monaco beat Bernard Tomic 6-0 6-2, Tommy Robredo upset 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-5 6-1, and fifth seed Milos Raonic eased past Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4 6-2.
Castleford Tigers: Orr expects Rangi Chase to face Reds
Castleford caretaker boss Danny Orr says he is expecting to have
stand-off Rangi Chase available for Saturday's trip to Salford.
Chase, 27, has been linked with a move to NRL side St George Illawarra and
chief executive Steve Gill said last week they would not stop him leaving.
“It would be wrong of me to do anything major, because the players are still getting used to the things Ian put in place. If I came in and changed it all and then a new guy came and mixed it up again they wouldn't know where they were going”Danny Orr
"I'm confident he'll be putting a Castleford shirt on at the weekend," Orr told BBC Radio Leeds.
"Until I hear different he's our player and one I'm glad is in our team."
He added: "He's a fantastic player, he's been training really well and I expect him to keep doing so until something changes."
Orr, 34, has been in charge of the Tigers for two weeks following the departure of Ian Millward.
He guided the Tigers to just a second league win of the season with victory over Widnes in his first game before falling to defeat in the Challenge Cup at Leeds last week.
The former skipper is not looking to make too many changes ahead of a new coach coming in.
"There's a couple of things that I've added or tweaked," he said.
"It would be wrong of me to do anything major, because the players are still getting used to the things Ian put in place.
